Went to Mexico a few years back and ended up on one of those pay to view tours.
Apologies that I can’t remember the name of the places.
Had a great time visiting the monuments and listening to the tour guide who was very passionate and informative about the history.
In the afternoon we were going to swim in an underground cave that had the purest water on the earth. Walked through part of a jungle and were told that because the water was so pure, we had to be blessed by a shaman.
Got changed in the smallest changing rooms know to man and went to see the Shaman. He went round chanting, burning something and blessing people. Then the tour guide told us we could have our photos taken with him and could leave a tip if we wanted. Nobody did tip him so i really felt for him, gave him a few quid, he smiled and he blessed and bopped me on my forehead with some metal object. This caused my head to bleed and i bet the others thought, ‘Glad we didn’t tip him’!
The best was yet to come, so I got ready to walk down the steps into the underground water but could see older people jumping in to it instead. I walked over, looked down, thought, that’s a bit of a height and pondered whether i should do it.
By now there was someone behind me waiting to jump and my body was telling me not too. It was about 30 feet and my fight or flight had kicked in. At this point i’m not sure whether the Shaman pushed me or i fell but it seemed to take forever to hit the water and all i could hear was cheering!
Cheering you ask? Well I did ask this American why people were cheering and in a polite voice they said ‘Nobody has ever seen anyone dive 30 foot whilst doing the doggy paddle in mid-air before!’
Embarrassed I can tell you!
