Wimpy Burgers, Rhyl

The Best Burgers in Rhyl back in the 80s!  I think i used to have a halfpounder with cheese and it would fill me up for days!

If i remember rightly ‘The Wimpy’ used to be the old ‘Forte Cafe’.  Would have been about 1984ish when we used to go there.  It was a sports shop last time i was in Rhyl.

You used to be able to go upstairs and sit next to the 2 large windows there.  Used to be able to see absolutely everything and it was also a teen hangout.

I remember a few years later when everyone was supposed to get a saturday job i got a job there.  My first task, flipping burgers?  Cleaning floors?  Nope, had to dress up as Mr Wimpy and walk around Rhyl saying ‘Hi’ to all the kids.

The suit was heavy, unbreathable, couldnt see where you were going, had to be led around by hand by someone else as you couldnt see through the eye grill of the uniform.  Best of, now i have size 11-12 feet but these monstrosities I had to wear on my feet were 3-4 times the size!

So, my first work experience at the ‘Wimpy’ was me being dragged around Rhyl Precinct by my hand, getting headbutted by a drunk punk whist small children were putting their heads up my skirt constantly.

After a few hours we went back to main HQ, I got my free burger and walked out never to return!
