Flatlet House in Rhyl growing up

I was so made up to find this image in Rhyl library about 10 years ago! My god it brought all the memories flooding back. I can’t remember where I found it, maybe some old tourism book or the likes of that.

From about the age of 7 my parents purchased a flatlet house in Beechwood Road, Rhyl and it was named “Cranbourne”. The amount of people we met was astounding, some really nice people also. The ones that stick in my mind were ‘Harry Secombe’, no not the real one but a guy who was the spit of him and who taught me how to swim in Rhyl SunCentre and then there was all the golfers from Bolton who used to come every year and I remember one of them used to bring his Daughter Amanda.
In the winter time when there was no visitors as the height of the season had ended, we used to have the girls from Lowther College come to stay. Alot of people know it as Bodelwyydan Castle but before that it was Lowther College and my dad was a joiner/handyman there.
So, quite a few malaysian and chinese girls from the college used to come and stay over the winter months. The smell of the food they cooked was just out of this world and they always liked to share. One of the girls that has always stuck in my mind was ‘Mable Lau’, she used to sit with me and my sister for hours and watch Bruce Lee films!
It’s funny looking at that old advert/brochure that is attached. I remember if my mum was busy, dad at work and the phone rang for a booking, then i would book it in and take their address etc…must have been 9ish at the time haha
My parent purchased next door which they turned in to a Guest House named ‘The Links’, it never quite had the personality and fun of the original flatlet house growing up. Still, so many fond memories.
