80s in Chester Park

Going back quite a while now (probably 18ish years ago), I got the opportunity to go to an 80s band reunion in Chester Park.

ABC, Heaven 17 and Spandau Ballet were playing.  Being an 80s kid I just couldn’t resist.  There were quite a few people there and all about the same age group.  Most of the middle aged women were already drunk on red wine in their plastic glasses!

ABC came on the stage, Martin Fry in that Gold Sequin suit…what a showman and what a voice!  Heaven 17 came on and when they sang ‘Temptation’ I got goose-pimples all over.  That guy could really knock out a note.

Then Spandau…I always thought Hadley was a bit up is own …. but he came on stage and said ‘Now Ladies, don’t be throwing your knickers at me!  All he received was abuse, you saw the women necking their red wine down quickly and then they proceeded to throw their plastic glasses at the stage.  Was quite funny to watch.

Have to give it to him though, he did have a very good voice.  Then something random happened and they decided to let the guy who plays the saxophone sing….my god, i just wanted to run 500 miles as it was the worst thing I have heard in all my years and still gives me nightmares!

Great night though thanks to the Gold God aka Martin Fry 🙂
